The government has launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), under which comes the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM). The Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) endeavours to build the necessary framework to support the digital infrastructure that will ultimately create a digital healthcare ecosystem.
The National Digital Health Mission aims to bring connected healthcare to Indians across every sector of society. Through the National Digital Health Mission, anyone can create ABHA (your unique health account) which will enable healthcare along with safe and secure, sharing and storing of health-related information, thus allowing a centralized digital health management system.
What is ABHA?
Those who wish to participate in ABDM and have their health records available digitally, must create a Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA). ABHA is an account that has a randomly generated 14-digit number used to uniquely identifying persons, authenticating them, and linking their health records (only with their informed consent) across multiple systems and stakeholders.
Your ABHA will be unique to you, and you will have the option to link all your health records to the ABHA. You can also choose to create multiple accounts to link different sets of health records with different ABHA numbers.
What details are needed to register for ABHA?
Your ABHA is created by using your basic details in addition to your associated mobile number or Aadhaar number. To create ABHA through an associated mobile number, you will need to provide: name, year of birth, gender, address, mobile number.
To create ABHA through Aadhaar, you need to provide: name, year of birth, gender, address, mobile number and Aadhaar number.
How to create an ABHA?
You can get ABHA through self-registration on the ABHA web portal or by downloading the ABDM Health Records application from the Google Playstore. You can also request for the creation of your ABHA at a participating health facility, which may include public/private hospitals, community health centres and health & wellness centres across India.

The National Digital Health Mission is set to bring about a digital revolution in healthcare and empower every Indian with ease and access to health. Now, carrying around files of medical records, or travelling long distances to keep doctors’ appointments will be a thing of the past, as the ABDM ecosystem will help to bring healthcare and health management to the comfort of one’s home.
