The reason why most people hate drinking is not the adverse effects of alcohol but because of the hangovers. Hangovers are truly no fun. They make the mornings unpleasant and irritating. We recommend avoiding alcohol as much as possible and never exceed the recommended safe units per week. Just for those unpleasant mornings where you went overboard, have a look and get to know a few home remedies that can make you feel better.

1) Drink Plenty of Water

Water is a good diuretic that helps in cleansing the amount of alcohol in the blood. Water helps in removing the waste from the body at a faster rate. After an alcohol party, sip larger amounts of water than usual to get rid of the hangover.

2) Consume Carbohydrates

Alcohol causes an interference in the glucose metabolism cycle which is the sole reason for fatigue, weakness, and fussiness associated with hangovers. To cure symptoms of a hangover, have a breakfast rich in carbohydrates and sweets, such as honey.

3) Grab Anti-Inflammatory Medication

Drinking alcohol increases the production of cytokines and causes an inflammatory reaction. These result in hangover symptoms like memory lapse. Anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen not only cure headaches caused by hangovers but also provide hangover relief. Do take Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or Naproxen to provide solace after a hangover, but do not take Tylenol (Paracetamol).

4) Try Sports Drinks

Sports drinks contain plenty of electrolytes like sodium, calcium, potassium, and magnesium, which help increase sodium and blood glucose levels that aids in rehydration. As alcohol causes dehydration, these drinks replenish the sugars and maintain the fluid-electrolyte balance.

5) Protect Liver With Asparagus

Asparagus is a green vegetable rich in minerals and amino acids that help alleviate the symptoms of a hangover and also protect the liver from the harmful effects of alcohol. Before you decide on partying, stock your fridge with asparagus. Take a good amount of asparagus the next day to beat hangover symptoms.

Home remedies can only cure the symptoms of hangovers, but not the effects of alcohol on your body. Going overboard on rare occasions is fine, but habitual alcohol overdrinking is unwelcome. Practice safe drinking habits, and if at all you get drunk, do follow appropriate home care measures to get rid of the hangover symptoms.
