8 Tips for Mental Well-being During Lockdown

With millions of people held up at home, either alone or with family, to fight and stop the spread of coronavirus, a sudden rise in mental health disorders has been reported. Not being able to go out, meet friends, or being stuck at home alone can take a toll on a person’s mental health.

To prevent this uncertain and trying times from affecting you psychologically, here are some tips and practices that may help your mental health:

  • Get Sufficient Sleep
    Did you know that getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep is vital for your mental and physical health? Which is why you should avoid staying up late watching movies. Get the recommended hours of sleep, so you can start your day feeling fresh and energized. 
  • Create a Routine
    Irrespective of you working from home or doing nothing at home, maintain a routine. Go to bed, wake up at a fixed time, and make your bed first thing in the morning. Take a nice shower and make your favorite breakfast. Plan your entire day in the morning and stick to your schedule.
  • Exercise

    As you cannot visit your friends and relatives, video calling is an excellent way to stay connected with them. You can catch up will all your friends and relatives by doing a group video call, at least once a week.
  • Hobbies
    This can also be the perfect time to get back into an old hobby. If you don’t have an old hobby, you can even start a new one. This will keep you busy and distracted. There are various hobbies, such as cooking, gardening, walking, knitting, painting, etc., to choose from.
  • Upskill
    You can improve your knowledge and update your resume with new skills and training experiences. There are various online courses that you can use to learn something new or update your skills.
  • Limit Social Media Use
    Do not read news feeds about how many new cases and deaths have been recorded. It can result in anxiety and seriously affect your mental health.
