Everyone tends to believe that men have an upper hand over a lot of things in life.

They get things easily as they have control over a lot of things. That’s not true because there are some things that they have no control over and one of these things include the ‘sexual problems’ that they face.

Men tend to approach their sexual problems in various ways. Some tend to ignore the issues, some stress about it and make it worse and some take measures to overcome the issues. That being said, before one can take measures for their sexual problems, it is extremely important to know about the problem in detail. Therefore, this article will serve the purpose of highlighting the various types of sexual problems faced by men in detail.

Let’s get started:

First and foremost, it is important to understand that sexual disorders in men can be caused due physical or psychological factors. Some physical factors include hormonal imbalances, lack of testosterone, use of prescription drugs, smoking, alcoholism, etc whereas some of the psychological factors include performance anxiety, depression, relationship problems, lack of sexual interest in partner, work-related stress, etc.

Erectile Dysfunction:
Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is the inability to get or maintain an erection during sexual intercourse. It is most commonly known as impotence and is one of the most common sexual dysfunctions with over 10 million cases in India every year. Men over the age of 40 years are most likely to fall prey to this dysfunction. In some cases, erectile dysfunction can be caused due to underlying medical problems like hardening of the arteries, nerve disorders, diabetes, high blood pressure, injury to the penis, etc. It can result in stress, low self-esteem and relationship problems if ignored or left untreated.

Premature Ejaculation:
Premature Ejaculation (PE) refers to the release of semen immediately or after a few minutes of penetration. The main cause of PE is performance anxiety, however other causes may include stress, depression, sexual repression, body image issues, etc. In addition to that, some studies have found that PE can be due to the intake of toxicants like cigarettes, alcohol and other prescribed drugs. Physical exercise and other self-help measures are sufficient to overcome PE. However, if nothing seems to work, consulting an expert is the best bet.

Delayed Ejaculation:
Delayed Ejaculation is a condition in which ejaculation happens after a very long period of time or does not happen at all. The cases for delayed ejaculation are comparatively less than the other types of sexual dysfunctions. The causes for delayed ejaculation could be physical exertion or psychological stress which keeps the mind and body from focusing on the enjoyment of the sexual intercourse. Other reasons for delayed ejaculation could be chronic health issues like diabetes, migraine, etc. Certain medications, surgeries, alcohol and drug use can also lead to delayed ejaculation.

Retrograde Ejaculation:
Retrograde Ejaculation is a condition in which the semen, which is usually released from the urethra (end of the penis) is directed back into the urinary bladder. It occurs when there is a problem with the bladder and is most common in men suffering from diabetes due to diabetic nerve damage. Retrograde ejaculation is mainly caused due to the side effects of various medications for conditions like enlarged prostate, diabetes, depression, etc. Cloudy urine (urine mixed with semen) and dry orgasms are the signs to look out for if worried about retrograde ejaculation.

Low Libido:
Low libido basically means lack of sexual interest. This happens due to low testosterone levels in the body as testosterone is responsible for sex drive, sperm production, mood changes, etc. Research has found that lack of interest in one’s partner is one of the prominent reasons for low libido. However, other factors like stress, depression, negative sexual experiences in the past, body image issues, relationship problems or health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, etc can also contribute to a low libido.
