It is crucial to make ourselves aware of these effects, as they can make a person very weak mentally. But anxiety disorders are usually associated with several physical effects on your body too.
Here are a few common physical effects of anxiety and situations where they can turn into a panic attack.
1. Chest Pain & Heart Palpitations
This might give you a false alarm making you think that you are experiencing a heart attack. That is not the case. In case you become too anxious or you are experiencing an extreme panic attack, your heart starts beating faster to make sure your body is ready for anything. This increases your blood pressure as the blood vessels constrict, which causes chest pain.
2. Shortness of Breath
When you are too anxious, you feel pressure on your chest, and your breathing becomes shallow and labored, which is called shortness of breath. You start becoming hyper-aware of your breathing, making you over breathe and take in more oxygen.
3. Hot Flushes and Sweats
A panic attack can also raise the body temperature. When the body’s temperature increases, it tries to cool itself by triggering sweat and making you perspire. Profuse sweating makes you feel cold and shivery after a while.
4. Dizziness
Once you start panicking, your body releases a lot of adrenaline. Hence your heart starts pumping forcibly and raises your blood pressure. Since your blood pressure goes up, you feel dizzy and lightheaded.
5. Hearing Sensations
When you are anxious, it sometimes becomes hard for you to focus on the usual sounds that surround you. But in some instances, when you are extremely alert during anxiety, you will be able to hear sounds that you would typically ignore.
6. Blurred Vision
An adrenaline surge making your vision blurry, is a common phenomenon. This is the result of your pupils becoming dilated to make way for a lot of light to enter your body with the intention of making your senses alert. But at times, so much light makes your vision blurry. This also makes way for hyperventilation.
7. Disturbing Thoughts
While in a state of anxiety, your mind always starts to think about what the worst-case scenario of the current situation would be. This can make some of us have crazy thoughts. If you are experiencing the situation and the feelings related to the situation for the first time, your mind starts to overthink and worry about the end result.
