Paleo Diet – Facts and Myths

This diet is also called as a Caveman’s diet or Stone age diet. A paleo diet is a high protein and high fiber eating plan. However, in spite its effectiveness this diet is surrounded by various myths. Let us clear some popular myths related to the paleo diet which will help you gain a better perspective about its benefits. 

1. Myth: Paleo diet allows only protein consumption, which is bad for the kidneys.

Fact: Paleo diet promotes the higher intake of vegetables (nearly 60-70%). However, the fact is that a high protein diet does not harm your kidneys. These findings are well supported by scientific studies. However, this diet is not recommended to those suffering from kidney-related diseases.

2. Myth- Paleo diet does not promote the consumption of dairy products, which mean it lacks in calcium.

Fact- This is not true. There are various sources that provide calcium other than dairy products. Green leafy vegetables, tinned fish and nuts are equally rich sources of calcium. Additionally, sufficient exposure to sunlight at least thrice a week promotes in calcium absorption.

3. Myth- Following paleo diet is heavy on pockets.

Fact- If you are comparing it with the burger, pizza or frozen food products from the market then it may appear to be expensive. However, the fresh fruits and vegetables, and grass-fed meat are far healthier than these fast food items.

It is important to remember that when you are investing in food, you are investing in your health! Therefore, always make a wise choice.
